Heat and Mass Transfer in Hygroscopic Porous Media: Consequences of Invoking Tóth’s Sorption Isotherm

چکیده
Abstract The thermal performance of ventilated beds hygroscopic porous media depends strongly on the sorption properties solid phase. Furthermore, published literature shows that predicted is extremely sensitive to form and accuracy isotherm. This particularly apparent under idealized conditions when thermodynamic equilibrium deemed exist between fluid phases. When Tóth’s isotherm invoked in an model used analyse a bed initially warm dry silica gel with cool, humid air, it shock wave develops downstream air entering bed. In contrast, shown non-equilibrium solutions result transfer wave, width which decreases as velocity interstitial decreases. Tóth gives rise erroneous values integral heat wetting gel. Previously studies simultaneous mass materials refer conceptual difficulties interpreting results, some mathematical analyses are somewhat terse. A secondary aim this work assuage these by detailing Supplementary Information.

Heat Transfer in Porous Media
In this work, the effects of electrical double layer (EDL) near the solid/ liquid interface, on three dimensional heat transfer characteristic and pressure drop of water flow through a rectangular microchannel numerically are investigated. An additional body force originating from the existence of EDL is considered to modify the conventional Navier-stokes and energy equations. These modified eq...
متن کاملHeat and Moisture Transfer in Hygroscopic Porous Media: Two Contrasting Analyses
The heat and mass transfer phenomena that occur in beds of ventilated hygroscopic porous media are coupled. This results in two transfer waves traversing bulks of porous medium that initially have a uniform temperature and moisture content, and that are subsequently ventilated with air that is not in thermodynamic equilibrium with the solids. The more rapidly travelling wave is known as a tempe...
متن کاملA Numerical Modeling for Natural Convection Heat Transfer in Porous Media With Generated Internal Heat Sources
In this paper a numerical method is used to study the unsteady state natural convection heat transfer within a confined porous media with uniform internal heat generation. The governing equations based on the Darcy model and Bossiness approximations are solved, using the finite difference Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) method. The developed program was used to simulate natural convection ...
